SAN MARCOS, Texas – Freshman pitcher
Randi Rupp backed up her performance Saturday afternoon with a one-hit, complete game shutout to lead the Bobcats to a 3-0 victory over Texas Tech in the final game of the 2015 CenturyLink Classic Sunday afternoon. Rupp struck out eight batters while walking just two in the Bobcat's fifth victory of the season. The Bobcats improve to 5-5 overall in the young season.
Â
Kelli Baker finished the afternoon with a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate as she boosted her season batting average to a team-leading .439.Â
The Bobcats got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Freshman catcher
Sara Rupp ignited the Bobcats by doubling down the left field line in the first at bat of the inning. With
Danielle Warne pinch running for Rupp,
Bianca Prado bunted back to the pitcher to move her around the bases. A throwing error by the Texas Tech pitcher not only moved Prado to second base on the play, but it scored Warne for the first run of the inning.
Â
A sacrifice bunt by
Braegan Hamilton moved Prado to third before Baker singled to left center to pick up the second run of the contest.
Â
After two scoreless innings, the Bobcats tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Baker and
Courtney Harris hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second for the Bobcats. Three batters later with the bases loaded,
Lexi Fryar reached on a fielding error while Harris crossed home plate to give Texas State a 3-0 lead.
Â
Texas Tech only had three base runners for the entirety of the afternoon and no Lady Raider base runner made it beyond second base.
Â
In addition to outhitting the Lady Raiders 5-1 on the afternoon, the Bobcats put together a perfect defensive showing for the fourth time this season.
Â
The Bobcats will now hit the road for the next three weeks, beginning this next weekend with a trip to the Maderia Beach Tournament hosted by Eastern Michigan.
