SAN MARCOS, Texas – Finishing the non-conference slate with a 6-3 record for the second straight year, the Texas State men's basketball team opens Sun Belt Conference play at home Wednesday against Georgia Southern (4-6). The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. inside Strahan Coliseum.
Time Warner Cable will broadcast the game on TWC SportsChannel (Ch. 323) in the Austin and San Antonio area. Fans outside of the area can watch the game on ESPN 3. Marc Hoenig will provide the play-by-play and Lance Blanks is the analyst for the contest.
Emani Gant leads the Bobcats with 15.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. His 50.6 field goal percentage is second on the team behind
Anthony Roberson's 57.1 percentage from the floor. Gant has reached double-digits in points in all seven games he has played this season and has recorded nine consecutive 10-plus point contests dating back to last season.
Contributing 11.9 ppg with 21 assists is
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury. His assist total is second on the team to
Ojai Black's 23.
Roberson enters the game with 48 total rebounds with 25 coming on the offensive glass. His 3.1 offensive rebounds per contest ranks third in the conference and 72nd in the nation.
Pacing Texas State defensively is
Ethan Montalvo with 20 steals and 2.2 per game. Black is second with 13 swipes and both Gant and Gilder-Tilbury have 10 steals each.
Kendell Ramlal sports a team-high nine blocks.
The Eagles finished their non-conference games with a 20- point victory over Stetson. They are led by Tookie Brown and his 17.3 ppg, 3.8 apg and 43.9 three-point field goal percentage. Ike Smith is averaging 11.5 ppg and paces the squad with 5.3 rpg.
Just shy of a double-digit scoring average is Mike Hughes at 9.9 points per contest. He comes in with a team-high 22 steals.
As a team, Georgia Southern has made a SBC best 102 three-pointers with five players having made at least 11. Pacing the team is Smith with 22, followed by 18 from Jake Allsmiller and Brown.
