STATESBORO, Ga. — The nation's leading rushing team proved to be too much to overcome on the road as the Texas State football team fell to Georgia Southern by a score of 37-13 Thursday evening.
How It Happened: Georgia Southern got on the board right away by using just five plays to move the ball 72 yards including a 37-yard rush on the touchdown play. All of the yards in the opening drive for the Georgia Southern were on the ground as were most of the plays for the evening.

Texas State was forced to punt in its first two drives of the game, but on Georgia Southern's second drive of the game the Bobcats forced the first of three Eagle fumbles of the game. Georgia Southern had moved into Texas State territory when
Rusmin Nikocevic forced his first career fumble and
Aaron Shaw recovered it for the 'Cats.

The Texas State defense went on to force and recover two more Georgia Southern fumbles in the first half, including one with seven seconds remaining in the half to slow up the Eagle offense and to stay within reach. Georgia Southern had not lost more than two fumbles all season long. Three fumbles tied a season-high for the Eagle offense. Three forced fumbles for Texas State was a season-high.

The Bobcats answered Georgia Southern's second half opening drive touchdown with one of their own, a 23-yard pass from
Tyler Jones to
Jafus Gaines, but the 11-point spread proved to be as close at Texas State would come for the remainder of the contest. Georgia Southern went on to score five straight times in the second half to pull away from the visiting Bobcats.

What It Means: Texas State falls to 2-5 on the year and 1-2 in SBC play with five games remaining on the 2015 schedule. Texas State has a much needed home stretch on the horizon with games against New Mexico State, Georgia State, and UL Monroe coming up. The Bobcats have yet to defeat Georgia Southern since the teams have made the move to FBS.
Up Next:Â Texas State will now return home for the next three contests, beginning with New Mexico State on Nov. 7. Kick-off on Homecoming is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
