Bobcats Drop 64-58 Decision to Appalachian State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State battled back the entire game on Saturday, but ran out of steam, falling 64-58 to Appalachian State at Strahan Coliseum. It marked the 10th game in 25 days for the Bobcats.

Appalachian State went on a 9-0 run to take a 46-37 lead. Texas State fought back to lose the game to 50-47, before the Mountaineers extended their lead again, due to an offensive rebound off a free throw, resulting in a layup. Frank Eaves then hit a three for App State to make it 57-47 with 2:34 to go.

Ethan Montalvo found his shot in the second half, bringing the Bobcats back from another six-point deficit, by hitting two straight-away threes to tie the game at 34-34. D.J. Brown then got in the act by driving to the basket and drawing a foul following a Mountaineer three, to make it 37-37 with 13:25 to go.

Much like Thursday night vs. Georgia Southern, Texas State had to battle back from an early deficit. The team trailed 23-16 with 3:44 to go in the first before Naylor had a layup for a fast break layup along with converting for a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 28-26 at halftime.

Emani Gant led the team in scoring with 16 points. Montalvo and Brown each finished in double figures with 11 and 12 respectively. Montalvo was 3-of-9 from three-point range.

The Bobcats will now have a week off before wrapping up its current three-game home stand against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's game will be televised on KBVO and also be available on radio on 89.9 FM KTSW and online at www.txstatebocats.com/radio.
