SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team won its third straight game and tied its best start since 2007-08, improving to 5-1 with an 81-65 win over Prairie View A&M, Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.
Texas State gained its largest lead of the game, at the time, in the second half, following a sequence started by D.J. Brown hitting a straight-away three-pointer. Emani Gant the broke up a fastbreak opportunity by Prairie View and went the other direction for a fastreak layup, giving the Bobcats a 60-45 lead with 10:35 to go.
Gant finished the game with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, for his second double-double of the season. He also contributed with four assists and two steals, tying with Wes Davis for the team-high in assists.
Davis also had an all-around game, finishing with 12 points, three rebounds to go with his four assists and four steals, giving him 147 steals in his career. Davis started strong in the first half, getting to the free throw line where he finished 5-of-6 for the day.
As a team, Texas State had its best shooting day of the season, going 29-of-48 from the field, good for a 60.4 percentage. The Bobcats also had 12 steals, their second straight game with 10 or more steals.
Texas State will now have seven days off before returning to action on Dec. 13, when it travels to Austin to take on the top-10 ranked University of Texas.
