Men's Basketball Plays No. 8 Texas Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team plays its first ranked opponent of the season on Saturday, when it travels up I-35 to take on No. 8 Texas, on the Longhorn Network at 7 p.m., at the Frank Erwin Center.

The Bobcats enter the game 5-1, their best start since the 2007-08 season, and are 10th in the country in scoring defense, averaging 53.8 points allowed per game.  

Emani Gant has been among the best players both in the Sun Belt Conference and in the entire country this season. Gant currently second in the Sun Belt Conference in steals (2.8) and is in the top 10 in several other categories: scoring - 16.2 ppg (6th), rebounds - 8.2 (2nd), field goal pct - .654 (2nd), and blocks - 1.0 (10th) 

He is also amongst the best in the nation in field goal percentage and steals per game, ranking ninth and 10th respectively.

Texas enters the game 7-1 overall, after losing its only game of the season to No. 1 Kentucky, last Friday in Lexington, Ky., 63-51.

Texas State and Texas will be a matchup of two top-10 defenses in the country. The Bobcats come into the contest ranked 10th while the Longhorns are sixth after not allowing a team to crack the 60-point barrier in its first seven games before Kentucky scored 63 last Friday.
