Softball Inks Three In Early Signing Period

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team and head coach Ricci Woodard have announced the signing of three players to the 2015-16 squad. These players include utility player Kallen Floyd, third baseman Carly Holder, and outfielder Kayleigh Norte.
 
"I couldn't be more excited about these three additions to our Texas State softball program," stated Woodard. "We look for all three of them to add something special to our offensive line up right away."
 
Kallen Floyd
18750Floyd, a native of Liberty Hill, Texas, is a 5-5 utility player who attended Liberty Hill High School. While at Liberty Hill, Floyd was named First-Team All-District, District MVP, and All-Centex Academic All-District. In 2012 during her freshman season, Liberty Hill qualified for the state tournament.
 
"Kallen is going to be fun to watch in all aspects of the game," mentioned Woodard. "She can hit with power, consistency, and she runs with great instinct. Look for Kallen toward the top of the batting order next year."
 
Off of the field, Floyd is heavily involved with volunteer work. She has volunteered with Operation LH (foodbank), the local nursing home, the community garage sale to give away items to those in need, and with the renovation of churches.
 
Carly Holder
Holder joins the Texas State softball program out of Montgomery High School in Montgomery, Texas. The 5-9 right-hander is a18751 third baseman at her high school and has earned many accolades at that position.
 
In 2014, she was named to the All-Greater Houston team at third base in addition to earning First-Team All-District and Offensive Player of the Year. Her Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2014 was the second time in her career for being honored with the award. Also in high school, Holder has been named to the UIL State All-Tournament Team after tying the UIL 4A State Tournament hitting record.
 
Her high school squad over the past three seasons has a 102-16 overall record.
 
"Carly is an offensive threat every time she steps in the box," stated Woodard. "We expect Carly to come in and provide consistency and power in the middle of the line up early in her career."
 
Kayleigh Norte
Norte joins the Texas State softball probably as an outfielder out of Rouse High School in Leander, Texas. With a 12-for-16 effort at the plate in the playoffs last season, Norte led her team to an Area and District Championship.
 
18752In 2014, she was named the Offensive Player of the Year and MVP at her high school in addition to earning First-Team All-Central Texas honors. In 2013, she was also her team's Offensive Player of the Year while earning District 25-4A Newcomer of the Year honors. That season, she was selected as a TGCA All-State player.
 
She has been on the All-Academic team since her freshman season and plays travel ball for the Austin Storm.
 
"Kayleigh will bring some much needed speed from the left side of the plate," said Woodard. "She had learned to control the bat really well and will work the opponents to death on the left side of the field."
 
"Today is a great day to be a Bobcat," Woodard added. "This group is going to make the current team even better. I'm very excited to see what is in store for Texas State softball."
