San Marcos, Texas – Using a great defensive performance for the second week in a row, and combining it with a great offensive output, the Texas State football team improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2005, defeating Prairie View A&M 28-3, Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium, in front of 20,135 fans.

The Bobcats got out to an early lead, going eight plays, covering 67 yards. The drive was aided by two third down conversions, which each went for 15 yards or more. Chris Nutall capped the drive by running it in from four yards out, giving Texas State a 7-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, it became 14-0 on a 10-play 61-yard drive, ending with a Robert Lowe, one-yard TD run. Third downs again proved to be critical as the Bobcats went 2-for-2 on third down, keeping the drive alive.

Prairie View A&M had an opportunity to get on the board midway through the second quarter, when it attempted a 40-yard field goal. Fortunately for the Bobcats, David Mims came off the edge and blocked the field goal, giving Texas State the ball at its own 23 yard-line.

The Bobcats took advantage of its good fortune, busting a 77-yard run by Nutall on the first play of the ensuing drive. He broke a tackle near the line of scrimmage and raced down the left sideline, for the 21-0 advantage.

The final score of the night came on an eight-yard run by Terrence Franks, his first of the year, giving the Bobcats the final score of 28-3.

Defensively, Texas State stood tall for the second week in a row, allowing just 45 yards on the ground. That comes a week after the Bobcats only gave up 23 yards to Southern Miss.

Texas State will have a bye week before returning to action at Big 12 opponent Texas Tech, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m., and it will air on Fox Sports Southwest.
