Postgame Notes

San Marcos, Texas –
Saturday night's game was memorable for many reasons. There was Tyler Jones' first start, the defense having another outstanding performance or what looked to be the story of the night, the three hour rain delay. However, the main thing to take away was the Bobcats 42-21 win over Wyoming.

The Tyler Jones era jumped off to a hot start. On his first drive, Jones kept the ball and rushed 38 yards down to the Wyoming 27-yard line. A few plays later he connected with Andy Erickson on a crossing route down to the Cowboy five-yard line. Robert Lowe capped the Texas State drive with his third rushing touchdown of the year.

Wyoming showed off its playmaking ability, responding to the Bobcats' touchdown with two scores of its own to take a 14-7 lead.

Following the Cowboys' second score, Texas State responded coming out of the three-hour delay with a quick strike. The Bobcats scored in two plays, covering 51 yards. Jones again showed off why he was a highly coveted prospect coming out of Stephenville High School, as he hit Ben Ijah in the back right corner of the end zone on a picture-perfect 26-yard toss, tying the game, 14-14, heading into halftime.

The Bobcat rushing attack aided Jones in the third quarter as the team took its first lead of the game. Texas State went 49 yards, all on the ground, capped off by Lowe's second touchdown run of the day, a five-yard scamper. During the drive he had 30 of the team's 49 yards. Lowe finished the day with a career high 141 yards.

After drawing the defense in with the run game most of the third quarter, Jones used play action for another explosive play, hitting David Lewis on the left sideline for a 33-yard pass to put the Bobcats just outside the red zone. A play later it was Chris Nutall with a 22-yard run up the middle in which he broke numerous tackles.

While the resurgent offense received most of the attention Saturday, and into Sunday, the Bobcat defense was perhaps even more impressive. Against an offense that came in averaging over 400 yards per game, Texas State limited Wyoming to a season-low 21 points and 356 yards.

Leading the defensive effort on the night was Michael Orakpo who had two tackles-for-loss, a sack and two quarterback hits.

Texas State will next begin Sun Belt play on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 6:00 p.m., as it travels to Lafayette, La., to take on the Ragin' Cajuns.
