Lubbock, Texas –
Texas State gave itself every opportunity to jump out to an early lead, but couldn't capitalize, as the team fell to Texas Tech 33-7, Saturday night at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas. The Red Raiders had a record 60,997 fans at the contest.

The Texas State defense rose to the challenge against a high-powered offensive attack from Texas Tech. The Bobcats in the first-half alone, forced two punts and two turnovers, allowing just six points themselves. The only touchdown the Red Raiders scored in the first half came off a fumble return for a touchdown from the Bobcats' seven-yard line.

The two forced turnovers by the defense set the Bobcats up in prime scoring position. First Xavier Daniels, stepped in front of a Baker Mayfield pass and returned it to the Texas Tech 38. Following Isaiah Battle's 35-yard catch-and-run, the team had it at the one-yard line. Unfortunately Tyler Arndt was intercepted at the one-yard line, ending the threat.

Midway through the second quarter, Texas State generated the second turnover, as Justin Iwuji took an interception down to the 11-yard line of Texas Tech. Again, the Bobcats were right on the door, at the one-yard line, but went for it on fourth-and-goal and were turned away as the Red Raiders took a 13-0 lead into halftime.

The second half started off strong on the ground for the Bobcats, as they scored just over two minutes into the third quarter. Robert Lowe first ran the ball into Texas Tech territory, giving Texas State a first down. The very next play, Lowe took a handoff and ran off the left side for a 49-yard touchdown, cutting Texas Tech's lead to just 13-7.

Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the defense that held up so valiant in the first half, was penetrated upon in the second 30 minutes. Texas Tech managed to total 17 points on offense, including a touchdown just 67 seconds after Texas State scored its first touchdown.

The Texas Tech defense then continued to bottle up the Bobcats' offense, allowing the Red Raiders high-powered attack to wear down Texas State's defense. The Raiders put the exclamation point on the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter with a 10-yard touchdown pass, to go ahead 30-7.

Texas State will next return home on Sept. 28, against Wyoming. The game will kickoff at 6:05 p.m., and be shown on the Longhorn Network.
