Las Vegas, Nevada – The No. 7 seeded Texas State men's basketball team will play the No. 10 seed Seattle in the first round of the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The tournament will get underway on March 12 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Bobcats and the Redhawks will be the first men's game of the tournament with an approximate start time of 8 p.m. CT.
With a victory on Tuesday night, Texas State will play No. 2 seed Denver on Thursday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. CT. The two semifinal games will be held on Friday, March 15 with the championship game slated for Saturday, March 16 at 10 p.m. CT and will air on ESPNU.
Last time Texas State and Seattle played each other was on February 28. Joel Wright registered 17 points and seven rebounds to lift Texas State to the 67-65 victory over the Redhawks. The win gave Texas State a sweep of the Redhawks for the season. Deonte' Jones added 16 points, while Matt Staff had 13 points and Reid Koenen contributed 12. Texas State won both games by a combined five points.
Texas State is led by Wright; an All-WAC Second Team and All-WAC Newcomer Team honoree. Wright finished the 2012-13 WAC regular season with the second-best scoring average in conference games at 17.8 points per game. With the postseason underway, Wright still leads the league in overall scoring at 17.2 points per game. Wright also became the 13th Bobcat player in school history to eclipse the 500-point mark in a single season, and has improved his overall point total to 532
The Bobcats finished the WAC regular season in seventh place, after being picked to finish 10th. Texas State holds a 10-21 overall record and a 5-13 count in conference play.
Tuesday will mark the first and only WAC Tournament appearance for Texas State, as it will become a member of the Sun Belt Conference next season. Overall, the Bobcats will make their fourth conference tournament appearance in the last five years (Southland – 2009, 2010 and 2011).
