Kelly Continues Strong Freshman Season with WAC Honor

Talore Kelly Earns Texas State’s Fourth Award in Five Weeks

San Marcos, Texas – This week, Texas State freshman Talore Kelly helped the Bobcats continue to dominate the Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards this season. A Texas State athlete has now won four of the five weeks the honor has been awarded. Kelly earned it this week as she set the season's best mark in the WAC in the weight throw.

Previous Bobcats to win the award this season include senior thrower Jalisa Hall, senior pentathlete Danessa Lyssy and junior high jumper Danielle Candelaria.

Kelly's throw of 18.21 meters set a new Texas State school's second best mark, which Hall just set a week earlier. Hall threw 18.11 meters at the Red Raider Open on Feb. 2, but it didn't stand long as Kelly bested it this past weekend at the Texas A&M Invitational, throwing for 18.21 meters.

In just her first year, the freshman from Amarillo has made her presence known on the squad.

“She is responding well to coaching early in her career, and we expect her to continue to do great things,” said throws coach Greg Watson.

Along with Kelly, sophomore Briana Sharp was an Athlete of the Week nominee this week.

Kelly and the rest of the team will next compete at the WAC Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., Feb. 21-23.
