San Marcos, Texas – Texas State had little trouble Wednesday night leading from start to finish against Cedarville, winning 79-58 at Strahan Coliseum. The Bobcats have now won three of their last four games.
Texas State had a 9-0 run in the first half, led by Kavin Gilder-Tilbury's seven early points to put the team up 17-7. Tilbury had a left corner three for the first of seven threes on the game for the Bobcats. He also assisted on a cross court pass to Ray Dorsey for a three.
The Bobcats did a good job sharing the ball in the first half, assisting on 10 of their first 12 baskets. Overall Texas State finished with 19 assists in the game, marking its second straight game with 19 or more assists after having 22 against Southeast Missouri.
Texas State made its play of the night in the second half when Wes Davis threw an alley-oop to Joel Wright for the dunk. It was one of three assists on the night for Davis, who also had 12 points. At the time it put the Bobcats up 53-28.
Defensively, the Bobcats locked down the Yellow Jackets, holding Cedarville to just 21 first half points. On the boards, Texas State held a 46-23 advantage, led by a career-high 12 from Corey Stern. Stern also had eight points, an assist and a block in 20 minutes of play.
Texas State will now have 10 days off before traveling to Austin to face Texas on Dec. 14. The game is at 7:00 p.m., at the Erwin Center.
