TROY, Ala. – Texas State bounced back from a loss to South Alabama with 3-1 victory over Troy (25-15, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19) on Sunday. The Bobcats dominated the first set, but gave up the second set. After that, Texas State found its groove late in the third set to win it and put the match out of reach with a strong performance in the final set.

Freshman outside hitter
Kelsey Weynand put together the best match of her young career with her first double-double of the season, finishing with a season high 12 kills and 17 digs.
Amari Deardorff matched her offensively with 12 kills of her own while
Ashlee Hilbun added 10 more.

Sierra Smith led the team in digs as usual with 21, but four other Bobcats finished with double digits. Outside of Weynand's 17,
Ali Gonzales put up a career high 17 digs while
Caylin Mahoney and
Shelby Vas Matt combined for 24 digs.

Mahoney put together an excellent match with 32 assists, 14 digs and eight kills on a .400 hitting percentage. She also added four block assists. In addition to Smith's defensive prowess, she also added seven assists.

Texas State started Sunday's match in impressive fashion, taking the first set, 25-15. Senior middle blocker
Molly Ahrens led the team with four kills in the opening set while Deardorff put down three. Weynand and Hilbun each had two kills while Mahoney added one. As a team the Bobcats hit .265 in the first frame while holding Troy to just a .000 hitting percentage, forcing nine errors.

After such a strong first set for the Bobcats, the Trojans answered with a set just as impressive for them. Troy's Blair Winston had seven kills in the set while Marija Zelenovic had five, and the Trojans hit .302 in the set. The Bobcats finished the second set at .184 and no Bobcat had more than two kills in the frame.

Both teams played a pretty even third set, but Weynand and Deardorff proved too much for the Trojans with five kills each. Hilbun tallied four in the set as Texas State struck for 16 kills to claim a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-23 win in the third frame.

The Bobcats played well throughout the entire fourth set, en route to a 25-19 victory to clinch the match.

Texas State returns home for the team's final home stand of the season. The Bobcats will host UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Over the weekend, Texas State will host Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. Friday and will celebrate Senior Day against Georgia State at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
