Denver Tops Texas State, 64-53

Denver, Colo.
 – The Texas State (4-11, 0-3 WAC) men's basketball team fell to Denver (6-7, 2-1 WAC) tonight on the road, 64-53 at Magness Arena. Senior Vonn Jones led the Bobcat offense tonight as he tied his career high of 16 points, in addition to dishing out three assists.

Junior Joel Wright added 12 points and six rebounds, while Reid Koenen chipped in 10 points.

Texas State kept inching its way closer to Denver, after trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half. V. Jones scored five straight points for the Bobcats to cut the Pioneers lead to 52-48 with a little over six minutes to go in the game.

The Bobcats went 1-for-11 from the floor over the final six minutes of play, but managed to get their points at the free throw line. Unfortunately, the Pioneers were able to keep Texas State at a distance and capture the win tonight.

The scoreboard read 31-25 at the half, in favor of the home team. Denver may have had the lead at the half, but Texas State's bench came out in the first and outscored the Pioneers' 19-8. Both teams shot over 40 percent from the floor, while the Bobcats managed to stay out of foul trouble with only four team fouls in the period compared to Denver's eight.

Denver shot 54.8 percent (23-42) from the floor and 50 percent from behind the arc. The Pioneers were led by Chris Udofia who scored 15 points. Brett Olson rounded out Denver's double digit scorers with 13 points.

Texas State will continue its road trip on Saturday, Jan. 5 when it plays at New Mexico State. The game can be seen live on ESPN3, as well as Comcast Sports Net Houston. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m. CT.
