San Antonio, Texas
– Texas State came out of the gates like a team on a mission. Its mission was to take down UTSA and win the I-35 Rivalry matchup - mission complete. The Bobcats defeated UTSA, 81-78, in overtime at the Convocation Center. The win gave Texas State (5-14, 1-6 WAC) its first conference victory, while it left UTSA (4-13, 0-7 WAC) still in the hunt for the same.

Reid Koenen found his stroke today, as he led the Bobcats with a career-high 23 points on 7-for-9 shooting; 5-for-7 from long range. Corey Stern recorded his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds for a career night in both categories. Joel Wright chipped in 16 points, while Phil Hawkins added 13 points, and Wesley Davis finished with 10 points.

After a solid first half performance by the Bobcats, Texas State came out of the gates in the second a little off beat. The Bobcats missed their first-five shots, before Wright hit a jumper.

Wright's jumper led to a 6-0 run by the Cats, but it was four straight points by Stern that brought Texas State to within two points at the 9:12 mark. The Bobcats went stride-for-stride with the Roadrunners for the remaining nine minutes, but it was a lay-in by Hawkins that tied the game at 70-All.

Neither team was able to score in regulation, as the Bobcats went into overtime for the first time in nearly two years. Texas State made it worthwhile for the fans as it finished the overtime period on a 9-2 run to come away with the thrilling victory tonight.

UTSA was led by Michael Hale III who had 31 points and nine rebounds. Kannon Burrage added 27 points and five rebounds.

Texas State will continue its three-game road trip next week, as it travels to Idaho and Seattle. The Bobcats will play the Vandals on Jan. 24 and the Redhawks on Jan. 26.
