Box Score
San Marcos, Texas – After pulling off one of the biggest upsets in college football history with a 30-13 victory at Houston, Texas State received 10 votes in this week's Associated Press poll.  Despite being a 34.5-point underdog in the game, Texas State opened the 2012 season with a 30-13 victory at Houston.

The Bobcats opened up a 27-10 halftime lead when senior Marcus Curry scored three touchdowns and Will Johnson added a pair of field goals.  Curry scored his first touchdown when Shawn Rutherford threw a 21-yard pass to Curry. Then, he ran 73 yards for another touchdown. ESPN Sportscenter named the run as its No. 8 Play of the Day. After Houston, closed to within 14-10, Curry added another touchdown on a two-yard run. Johnson closed out the scoring in the first half with a pair of field goals from 32-yards and 45-yards. Johnson scored the final points in the game with a 34-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, Texas State held Houston to just 1-of-16 attempts in third and fourth-down conversions during the game. The 13 points also was the fewest points the Cougars had scored since playing at UCLA in 2010. Houston entered its season-opener after posting a 13-1 record and leading the nation in total, passing and scoring offense in 2011.
