Game Notes
San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State football team looks to win its second straight home game and improve its overall record to 3-1 when the Bobcats play host to Nevada in a non-conference game on Jim Wacker Filed at the newly renovated Bobcat Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 29. The game will kick off at 1:00 p.m. and will be regionally-televised on the Longhorn Network.
The game will mark the first time in school history that the Bobcats have played host to a team from the Mountain West Conference after playing at New Mexico in 2003, TCU in 2009 and Wyoming last year.
The Bobcats enter the game having improved its record to 2-1 with a 41-37 victory over Stephen F. Austin last Saturday. The Bobcats opened the season with a 30-13 victory at Houston on Sept. 1 before falling to Texas Tech in their home opener on Sept. 8.
Nevada enters the game with a 3-1 record after a 69-24 victory at Hawai'i on Sept. 22 and a 45-34 win against Northwestern State on Sept. 15. The Wolf Pack opened the season with a 31-24 victory at California on Sept. 1 before suffering a 32-21 loss against USF on Sept. 8.
Coaches To Cure MD
Texas State coaches will join other members of the American Football Coaches Association across the nation on Saturday when they wear Coach to Cure MD shoulder patches on the sidelines to help raise awareness and money to fund research for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most prolific lethal genetic disorder of childhood.
Fans can donate $5 by texting the word “CURE” to 90999 or they can visit the donation website, www.CoachtoCureMD.org. This year, the AFCA looks to surpass $1 million in donations.
Game-Day Promotions
Texas State has several promotions for Saturday's game against Nevada. “Family Weekend” is being sponsored by the Family Association so families can see what their children have been doing while attending the university. The Advancement Office is inviting alumni, families and friends to campus for “Discover Texas State” day and the Texas State Band has invited Connelly High School to Bobcat Stadium for “Band Day”. In addition the Zeta Tau Sorority, Central Texas Medical Center and Texas State Athletics have teamed together to support the fight against Breast Cancer with Saturday's game being the annual “Pink Out Game” to raise awareness and donations for research.
The Series
Texas State and Nevada will meet for the first time when the two teams play at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday.
The Coaches
Texas State: Dennis Franchione is in his second stint and fourth season overall at Texas State. Franchione has a 21-16 record at Texas State and enters the Nevada game with a 195-108-2 career record. He compiled a 13-9 record at Texas State in 1990-91 before going on to coach at New Mexico, TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M before returning to Texas State last year.
Nevada: Chris Ault is in his 28th year overall and in the ninth year of his third term as the head coach at Nevada. He enters Saturday's game with a career record of 229-104-1 after guiding the Wolf Pack to seven straight bowl appearances. Ault also served as Nevada's head coach from 1976-92 and 1994-95 seasons.
What's Next
Following the Nevada game, Texas State will play its second straight game against a Mountain West Conference opponent when the Bobcats travel to New Mexico on Oct. 6.
