San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State Athletics Department will host a preseason football pep rally for students during the final minutes of Texas State's final preseason workout before the Bobcats begin their normal game week preparations before their season-opening game at Houston on Sept. 1.
Texas State will practice in full pads beginning at 5:15 p.m. and the pep rally starts at 7:00 p.m. at the newly constructed North Side Complex with head coach
Dennis Franchione slated to address those students attending. Students are asked to park in the east parking lot and enter through Gate 5.
The Bobcats are playing their first season in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and will play in the Western Athletic Conference in 2012 before joining the Sunbelt Conference in 2013.
Following the Houston game, the Bobcats will play their first home game against Texas Tech on Sept. 8, marking the first time in school history that Texas State has played host to a team from the Big 12 Conference. Texas State students wrapped around Strahan Coliseum on Friday pickup their tickets to the Texas Tech game. There will be another pickup event on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 6:00 p.m., on the second floor of the LBJ Student Center outside the police office. Beginning Thursday, Aug. 30, at noon, students can go over to the ticket office in the North Endzone Complex at Bobcat Stadium.
Following the Texas Tech game on Sept. 8, Texas State will also play home games against Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 22, Nevada on Sept. 29, Idaho on Oct 13, Louisiana Tech on Nov. 10 and New Mexico State on Dec. 1. The New Mexico State contest will mark the final Western Athletic Conference football game after the WAC announced that it will not sponsor football following the 2012 campaign.
