San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State (8-13, 1-7 SLC) men's basketball team will head to Louisiana this weekend to play Southland Conference East Division foe Nicholls (4-15, 2-7 SLC) on Saturday, Feb. 4. Tip-off at Stopher Gym is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Series

Texas State leads the all-time series, 28-23.The last time the two teams met, the Bobcats beat the Colonels, 75-60, in San Marcos on Feb. 5, 2011.

Scouting Texas State

Texas State is coming off a 71-63 loss at Stephen F. Austin to drop its fifth straight.  The Lumberjacks swept the season series.

The Bobcats continue to lead the SLC in scoring offense (78.3 ppg). They are also fourth in field goal percentage (.439) and third in three-point percentage (.356).

Texas State sits in sixth place in the SLC West Division with an 8-13 overall record and a 1-7 record in league play.

The Bobcats are led in scoring by senior Brooks Ybarra with 12.3 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Junior forward Matt Staff is second with 12.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg. Senior Eddie Rios rounds out the top three with 11.0 ppg and 2.5 apg.

Scouting Nicholls

Nicholls' enters Saturday's game with a 6-15 overall record and 2-7 record in conference play. The sixth ranked Colonels in the SLC East are 3-4 at home so far this season.

 

The Colonels have won two of their last four games, with their most recent victory coming against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

 

Nicholls is eighth in the league in scoring offense (64.7 ppg) and 11th in scoring defense at 78.7 ppg. The Colonels are shooting 65.6 percent from the free throw line, and are sixth in the league in three-point field goals percentage at 32.3 percent.

 

Trevon Lewis is the team's leader scorer averaging 12.9 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. Bryan Hammond is second in scoring with 9.3 ppg.

Texas State returns home on Feb. 8 to host Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. The Bobcats when then travel to face UT Arlington on Saturday, Feb. 11.
