Logan, Utah – The Texas State football team forced three second half turnovers, but it was not enough, as the Texas State football team fell 38-7, Saturday at Romney Stadium in Logan, Utah.
Utah State started hot right out of the gate. A personal foul on the opening kickoff gave the Aggies the ball at the Texas State 45. From there it took the Aggies six plays to get into the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
The Bobcats responded well, controlling the ball for 14 plays, covering 63 yards for over seven minutes of clock time. Unfortunately Shaun Rutherford was intercepted in the right corner of the end zone on a 3rd-and-9 play from the Utah State 12 yard line, killing the Texas State drive.
On the Aggies' next drive the Bobcats nearly got a sack from Blake McColloch, but he was a second late and Utah State was able to get the pass off and complete it down to the Texas State 2-yard line. The next play made it 14-0 when USU completed another 2-yard pass for the score.
USU went on to total 35 points in the first half, scoring on five of their seven drives in the first 30 minutes.
Texas State got momentum in the second half when defensive end Jamie Clavell-head intercepted a Utah State screen pass at their 10 yard line. Two plays later Marcus Curry took it in from five yards out for the Bobcats first score of the day.
The momentum continued when Bobcats forced another turnover on the last play of the third quarter. Damion McMiller knocked the ball out of the Utah State ball carrier's hands at Texas State's own four-yard line, preventing the Aggies from adding to their point total.
Texas State's defense continued to step up in the second half, when Chase Harper hit the Utah State quarterback as he was throwing and Jerrid Jeter-Gilmon intercepted the ball at the Bobcats' 38-yard line. For the day, the Bobcats owned a 3-1 turnover advantage.
Next up for the Bobcats will be No. 25 Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Nov. 10. The game will kickoff at 6:00 p.m., at Bobcat Stadium and will be televised on the Longhorn Network. There will be special presentations during the game to recognize the veterans who have served in the military in appreciation of Veterans Day.
