Bobcats Claw Past UC Riverside, 81-69

Anchorage, Alaska
– Four Bobcats scored in double figures, as Texas State (3-3) defeated UC Riverside, 81-69. Corey Stern led the Cats with a career-high 17 points in Texas State's final game of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

Matt Staff added 16 points, while Reid Koenen had 12 points. Vonn Jones rounded out the Bobcats' top scorers with 10 points and seven assists.

UCR (1-6) attempted to make a comeback in the second half when it jumped out to a 5-0 lead to begin the half, but it wouldn't last long. Texas State was able to slow the Highlanders down and take advantage of the ball. The Bobcats led by as many as 19 points with 1:56 to go in the game, as they captured the victory at Sullivan Arena.

Stern led the charge with 10 points in the half, while Basil Brown went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Texas State connected on 14 free throws in the period, and finished the game shooting 50 percent from the floor.

The Bobcats came out dominating from the start and it forced UCR to call two timeouts in the first three minutes of play, after Texas State jumped out to 10-2 lead.

Texas State made its first six shots of the game and took a double digit lead with less than four minutes coming off the clock. The Bobcats controlled the pace of the game, and led by as many as 16 points when Staff hit back-to-back three pointers. Texas State shot 62.1 percent in the first half and 54.5 percent from behind the arc.

Chris Harriel led UCR with 16 points. Dayton Boddie had 12, and Davin Guinn added 10 points.

Texas State will return to San Marcos on Nov. 30 when it hosts Utah at 7 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.
