THE TEAMS
Texas State enters the game with a 3-6 overall record in its first season as a member of an FBS conference. The Bobcats are 1-3 against Western Athletic Conference teams this season after dropping a hard-fought 62-55 decision against then No. 18-ranked Louisiana Tech on Nov. 10. It was the third straight loss for the Bobcats after defeating Idaho, 38-7, in its first WAC game in school history. Texas State also suffered a 38-7 loss at Utah State on Nov. 3 and a 31-20 setback at San Jose State on Oct. 27.

The Bobcats will be looking for their second road win this season and enter this Saturday's game at Navy with 1-3 road record after opening the 2012 campaign with a 30-13 victory at Houston. Texas State also suffered a 35-14 loss at New Mexico on Oct. 6.

Navy enters the game having won five of its last six games after suffering a 41-31 loss at Troy on Nov. 10. The Midshipmen won their five previous games. The winning streak began with a pair of road wins after Navy defeated Air Force, 28-21, in overtime on Oct. 6 and Central Michigan, 31-13, on Oct. 12. The Midshipmen also edged Indiana, 31-30, in Annapolis and trounced East Carolina, 56-28, in Greenville, N. C. The last win was a 24-17 decision against Florida Atlantic in Navy's last home game.

THE COACHES
Texas State head coach Dennis Franchione is in his second stint and fourth season overall at Texas State. Franchione has a 22-21 record with the Bobcats and enters the Navy game with a 196-113-2 career record. He compiled a 13-9 record at Texas State in 1990-91 before going on to coach at New Mexico, TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M. Franchione returned to the sidelines in 2011 when guided Texas State to a 6-6 record. Franchione enters Saturday's game with a 1-0 record against Navy as a head coach after leading TCU to a 24-0 victory on Sept. 30, 2000 in Annapolis.

Ken Niumataiolo (KNEE-uh-mot-uh-lo-lo) is in his fifth season at Navy with a career record of 38-24 after coaching Navy in the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl. In 2008, he became the first coach to lead Navy to a bowl game in their inaugural season and their first three years. His best season was in 2009 when he led the Midshipmen to 10 wins and he had a nine-win season in 2010. Niumataiolo returned to Navy as the assistant head coach in 2002 after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at UNLV. He also was an assistant at Navy in 1995-96 after beginning his coaching career at Hawai'i in 1990.
