San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State (7-6) men's basketball team will host Stephen F. Austin (6-7) on Wednesday night in its Southland Conference opener. The Bobcats are currently on a 16-game home win streak at Strahan Coliseum. Tip-off versus the Lumberjacks is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Series

Stephen F. Austin leads the all-time series, 67-97. The two teams last played on Feb. 2, 2011 when the Lumberjacks came away with a 73-70 overtime victory.

 

Scouting Texas State

Texas State has won nine consecutive SLC games at home dating back to March 6, 2010. Texas State is currently on a 16-game win streak at home dating back to Dec. 31, 2010. The Bobcats are ranked 10th in the nation in the category. Texas State is off to its best start since 2008-09 when it went 8-6 to begin the season.

 

Texas State leads the SLC in scoring (82.8 ppg), and is second in field goal percentage (.442), and third in three-point percentage (.357).

 

The Bobcats enter conference play with the second-best winning percentage in the West Division and third-best overall. Lamar leads the league with a 9-5 record, followed by UT Arlington at 7-5 and Texas State at 7-6.

 

The Bobcats are led in scoring and rebounding by by junior forward Matt Staff at 12.2 ppga nd 7.2 rpg. Seniors Eddie Rios and Brooks Ybarra are two and three with 11.7 ppg and 11.5 ppg, respectively.

 

Scouting Stephen F. Austin

Stephen F. Austin enters Wednesday's contest with a 6-7 record. SFA is 1-4 in away games this season; 1-6 on the road. SFA is ranked fifth in the nation in scoring defense, holding its opponents to an average of 54.1 ppg. The Lumberjacks most recent victory came on Dec. 30 in a 93-36 thump over UT-Tyler. The win snapped a three-game losing streak.

 

Jereal Scott leads SFA with 15.0 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game. Scott also leads the team in made free throws (47-67). Kevin Broussard leads the 'Jacks in three-pointers with 13.
