Men's Basketball vs. Huston-Tillotson Gallery
San Marcos, Texas – Senior forward Brooks Ybarra had a career-high night as he led the Texas State men's basketball team to a 99-47 victory over visiting Huston-Tillotson tonight at Strahan Coliseum. The win is the 16th consecutive home victory for the Bobcats who rank 12th in the nation in the category.
Ybarra scored seven of the Bobcats first nine points to finish with 20 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Eddie Rios chipped in 14 points and six assists, while senior guard John Bowman was 5-for-6 from the floor with 10 points.
The Bobcats started the game on a 13-0 run. The Rams weren't able to net their first basket until 14:25 in the first half. It was pretty much Texas State's ball game from start to finish. Five different Bobcats scored in the first 10 minutes of the game, which helped the Bobcats go up by 22 late in the half on a layup by Wesley Davis.
Texas State took a 22-point halftime lead into the locker room, backed by a 12-point showing by Ybarra. The Bobcats also were commanding on the boards as they ripped down 27 rebounds, 22 of which were on the defensive end.
Coming out of halftime Texas State continued to play well as a team. The Bobcats went on a 24-4 run due to a combination of free throws, layups and even a few dunks. Rios caught on fire in the half, as he netted all 14 of his points in the second period to help the Bobcats to their largest margin of victory this season at 52 points.
The Bobcats wrapped up the game having had 12 players score in the win. Texas State finished with 53 rebounds; 41 defensive. The team shot 75 percent from the free throw line (21-28) and 55 percent from the floor (34-61).
Lance Richardson was the Rams leading scorer with nine points and four rebounds.
Texas State will travel to the University of Houston for a game against the Cougars on Friday night. Tip-off at Hofheinz Pavilion is set for 8:05 p.m. The game will also be televised on CSS.
