Men’s Hoops Falls to Texas on the Road, 86-52

Eddie Rios registered 11 points tonight, but the Texas State men's basketball team lost to the University of Texas, 86-52, Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center. The loss snaps Texas State's three-game win streak.

Texas stepped up its defense tonight to hold Texas State to a season-low 25.9 percent (15-58) from the floor. The Bobcats were also out-rebounded, 42 to 27. Both teams turned the ball over tonight, but Texas was able to score 14 points off 14 Bobcat errors.

Rios was able to score eight straight points for the Bobcats, including back-to-back three-pointers late in the game, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. Wesley Davis and Travis Jones also came away with a few baskets for the Bobcats at eight points apiece.

Texas State was able to get to the line tonight. The Bobcats connected on 15 of 24 free throws in the game, while also netting seven three-pointers.

The Bobcats were able to hold a steady lead on UT in the beginning of the half for a little over three minutes. Unfortunately, for Texas State its shots weren't falling as the game went on. The Bobcats managed three baskets in the first half and connected on 11-of-13 free throws for their lowest first-half point total in nearly a year at 19 points.

Texas had five players finish in double digits with Julien Lewis leading the way. Lewis recorded 19 points as the Longhorns shot 56.3 percent from the floor.

Texas State will continue its three-game road trip the week after next when it heads to New York. The Bobcats will play at Long Island on Dec. 20 and at Fordham on Dec. 22.
