Game Notes

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State will make its first road trip of the season when it participates in the UTPA Tournament this weekend, Friday through Sunday. The Bobcats will face Toledo, UTPA and USC Upstate over the course of three days.

The Bobcats open the tournament on Friday against Toledo at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's contest will be played at 7:00 p.m. against UTPA, and then Texas State will conclude with USC Upstate at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Series

Texas State leads the series against UTPA, 12-19. Last time out, the Bobcats beat the Broncs 82-70 in San Marcos. This weekend marks the first-ever meetings against Toledo and USC Upstate.

Scouting Texas State

Texas State (2-0) beat visiting Howard Payne, 96-55, Nov. 15 at home to win its 12 consecutive home game.  Brooks Ybarra leads all scorers with 15 points per game, while the Bobcats have four players averaging double digits. The Bobcats have now used seven different starters with two different combinations.

Scouting Toledo

Toledo (0-0) will open its 2011-12 season at the UTPA Tournament. The Rockets have just three letterwinners returning from last year, with no seniors on their roster. Head coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his second year.

Scouting UTPA

UT Pan American (1-1) has suffered a pair of losses to open the season. The Broncs fell to DePaul in its season opener 91-72, and fell to Northwestern 60-36. Head coach Ryan Marks is in his third season with UTPA.

Scouting USC Upstate

South Carolina Upstate enters the UTPA Tournament with a 1-1 record. The Spartans were led by Fred Miller and Adrian Rodgers in their first two outings. (L, 83-63 vs. Arkansas; W, 91-66 vs. Piedmont College). Head coach Eddie Payne is in his 10th year at USC Upstate.
