Texas State Falls to McNeese State, 5-2

Lake Charles, Louisiana - One day after run ruling the McNeese State Cowboys, the foe got the best of No. 29 Texas State and walked away with a 5-2 victory Saturday afternoon at Cowboy Diamond. The Bobcat fell to 29-16 overall and 19-7 in the league. The Cowboys improved to 27-19 and 15-11, respectively.

Despite walking six batters and not recording a single strikeout, Jaden Dillon (7-0) tossed seven inning of scoreless ball against Texas State to earn the win. Dillon allowed just five hits while stranding seven runners.

Zach Butler came in to relieve Dillon in the eighth and faced three batters to keep the charge going. The Bobcats didn't break through until the ninth when Kyle Kubitza opened the frame with a base hit to left center. Laurn Randell followed up with base hit of his own and a wild pitch paired with two groundouts pushed two runs across. An error by Steven Irvine at third base kept Texas State's rally going to put Tyler Sibley on base. Christian Gallegos replaced him on the base paths and a wild pitch put the freshman into scoring position.

Senior Kyle Livingstone didn't slow down the comeback, belting a single into right field to bring the tying run to bat and McNeese State opted for a pitching change. Matt Click was brought to the mound and picked up his fifth save of the season by forcing a groundout to short stop and giving the Cowboys their 31st all-time win over Texas State.

Michael Russo opened for Texas State and tossed two scoreless innings to open the game. Four runs came across in the third and fourth inning, two of which were unearned, to give the Cowboys and early lead and the final run for the foe came in the seventh on an RBI double by Lee Orr.

Orr went 2-for-4 with one runs scored and a pair of RBI. All told, McNeese has 12 hits to Texas State's eight.

The Bobcats were led by Jeff McVaney's 2-for-4 effort.

Russo was handed his first loss of the season, falling to 4-1, after a 6.2 inning stint. The senior allowed 12 hits and five runs, three of which were earned, while walking one batter and fanning one, as well.
