Colorado Springs, Colo. – Despite a second half rally, the Texas State women's basketball team could not get over the hump, falling to Air Force 61-41 in the Air Force Classic, Saturday at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs.
Air Force took advantage of the Bobcats shooting woes in the first six minutes to take an 8-2 lead at the 14:00 mark. For the first half the Bobcats were just 3-24 (12.5%).
It was a sharp contrast between the two teams, with Air Force shooting 39.8% (11-28), including 4-6 from the line to take a 26-8 lead into halftime.
Jasmine Baugus provided a spark for the Bobcats offensively, scoring five consecutive points in the second half, including the team's first three from the left wing. She tied a career-high with five points.
With about 10 minutes remaining in the second half Air Force, extended its lead to 44-22, before Texas State went on a 6-0 run, eventually cutting it all the way to 50-35. Unfortunately that is as close as the Bobcats would come in the second half as the Falcons were able to answer every run by the Bobcats.
In the second 20 minutes, Texas State was much improved offensively, shooting 46.4% (13-28). Unfortunately Air Force was able to hang with them, shooting a 44.1% of their own.
The Bobcats will return home on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m., when it takes on the Southwestern Assemblies of God. The game is also the team's annual kids day, with elementary schools students from all over San Marcos ISD attending the game for the third straight year.
