Men’s Basketball Falls to Texas Southern 78-64 in the 2nd Annual Heritage Classic

–  Texas State dropped a 78-64 decision to Texas Southern Thursday night in the Second Annual Heritage Classic at  the Wilkerson-Greines Center on Thursday night. The Bobcats fell to 2-6 with the loss, while the Tigers improved their record to 2-7.

Travis Jones led Texas State in scoring with 19 points and nine rebounds. Tony Bishop added 10 points and five rebounds, while #A.J. Stewart# netted 10 points, eight rebounds and one blocked shot.

After a tough first half, Texas State fought back in the second half and was able to cut the lead to 10 points with a layup by Stewart with 13 minutes left in the game. The Bobcats outscored the Tigers 43-41 in the second half, but it was not enough to close the gap and come away with the win, as the Bobcats dropped their fifth game in a row.

Bishop got the game started with a jumper down low to give the Bobcats their first points of the game. Texas State and Texas Southern traded points for the majority of the first half, before the Tigers went on a 14-0 run.

Ryan White ended the run with a 3-pointer from the left side to pull the Bobcats back to within 30-19. Texas Southern was able to keep a safe distance, as they took a 37-21 lead into intermission.

Travele Jones led Texas Southern with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Harrison Smith netted 15 points and Keithtrick Denson added 10 points for the Tigers.

Travis Jones and Travele Jones were named the MVPs of the game.

Texas State returns to the court on Sunday, Dec. 19 when the Bobcats travel to North Texas. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in Denton, Texas.
