Austin, Texas – Texas State fell to #25 Texas, 101-65, at the Frank Erwin Center this afternoon. The Bobcats drop to 2-5 overall, with the Longhorns improving to 7-2.
#Tony Bishop led Texas State with 12 points and seven rebounds. Cameron Johnson# also added 12 points, while Ryan White finished with seven points and six assists.
Johnson scored four quick points for Texas State to start the second half, but Texas stayed one step ahead of the Bobcats to come away with the victory. The Longhorns outscored the Bobcats 62-41, in the second half to become the second team this season to post 100+ points against Texas State.
Texas State scored the first points of the game on a fast break layup by Johnson off a feed from White. The Bobcat traded points with the Longhorns for the next few possessions before Texas hit back-to-back threes to go up 15-10 on Texas State.
A pair of treys by Travis Jones brought the Bobcats to within two with 9:49 left in the half, cutting the Longhorn lead to 20-18.
After Texas went on a 9-0 run, a pair of free throws at the 5:04 mark by Bishop cut the Longhorns lead to seven. The set of free throws was the first attempts by either team.
Cory Joseph led Texas with 19 points, while Jordan Hamilton added 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Texas out rebounded the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation Texas State, 38-22. The Bobcats were held to a season-low with its previous low being 39 rebounds.
Texas State will hit the court again on Thursday, Dec. 16 when it plays Texas Southern in a neutral game in Fort Worth. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Wilkerson Grienes Center. The Bobcats will then play North Texas on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m.
