Phillip Pongratz is in his seventh year as an assistant director of sports information at Texas State where is he the primary contact for baseball, men's basketball and soccer. He was previously the contact for men's and women's golf, cross country and track & field.

Prior to arriving in San Marcos, he worked a year as the assistant sports information director at Texas A&M-Kingsville and was the main contact for softball, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s golf, cross country and track & field. Pongratz covered the men’s track & field team’s fourth place performance at the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships and promoted javelin thrower Javan Gray to earn Capital One Academic All-America First Team honors.

Previously Pongratz served as the assistant director of athletic communications at fellow Lone Star Conference school Eastern New Mexico University for two years. His primary sports were baseball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer and volleyball, while assisting with all other sports as well.

Before working at ENMU, he served as a media relations assistant at Louisiana Tech and was the main contact for men’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s tennis. During his tenure, he covered the Bulldog basketball program that made their first and only appearance in the Western Athletic Conference basketball championship game.

Pongratz also worked in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Media Relations Department from January 2009 to May 2011, where he served as a student assistant and intern. During his time at UTC, he assisted with all phases of the Mocs’ public relations including serving on the statcrews for a number of sports while also assisting with promotions and game operations.

Pongratz has also assisted with media operations for the 2009 NCAA Division I FCS Championship game, the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships, the 2009 and 2011 Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships and the 2009 and 2010 Southern Conference Softball Championships.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Tennessee-Chattanooga in sport and leisure services administration in 2009 and his master’s of business administration in 2011.

Pongratz has been an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) since 2011.
