Van Hook enters her first season as a volunteer assistant at Texas State following a one-year stint as the graduate assistant at St. Mary's University and graduated with a degree in exercise and sport science.

Van Hook also spent her last two years of collegiate eligibility patrolling the outfield for the Rattlers. She appeared in 119 career games for St. Mary's and made 118 starts. In her two-year stint with the Rattlers, Van Hook recorded a batting average of .254, eight doubles, a pair of triples and four home runs. She drove in 36 runs.

Van Hook's father, Kyle, was a long-time baseball coach at Blinn College and now scouts for the Cleveland Indians. Her older brother, Clay, is an assistant coach at University of Oklahoma.
