Johnny Ragin III serves as the Assistant Athletics Director for Development at Texas State University, where he leads strategic fundraising initiatives supporting major gifts, capital projects, premium seating, and donor engagement efforts as the university transitions into the Pac-12 Conference. Since joining Texas State in December 2024, Ragin has secured more than $3.4 million in commitments while supporting fundraising strategy surrounding the department’s $50 million “Light the Star” campaign and future facility enhancements.
Prior to Texas State, Ragin served as Associate Director of Development with the Duck Athletic Fund at the University of Oregon, where he raised more than $2.8 million in support of Oregon Athletics. His responsibilities included managing a major gift portfolio, supporting facility campaign initiatives, and enhancing donor engagement and stewardship efforts for former student-athletes and supporters of the department.
A former team captain and starting linebacker for Oregon Ducks football, Ragin was a member of Oregon’s 2014 Pac-12 Championship team, 2015 Rose Bowl championship team, and played in the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship game. He later earned a contract with the Tennessee Titans following rookie minicamp, played in the Alliance of American Football, and was selected by the Houston Roughnecks in the 2019 XFL Draft. Academically, he was a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selection and semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
Ragin earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in General Social Science from the University of Oregon. Faith and family remain central to his life. He and his wife, Nikki, are proud parents to their children, Johnny and Chandler.
