Johnny Ragin III joined Texas State Athletics in December 2024 as Assistant Athletics Director for Development. In this role, he serves as a frontline fundraiser, working closely with donors, alumni, and friends of the university to secure support for capital campaigns, the annual fund, and special initiatives.
Johnny brings a background in both sales and development. In 2022 and 2023, he served as Associate Director of Development for the University of Oregon athletic department, where he raised over $2.8 million to support student-athletes. While with the department, Ragin managed a major giving portfolio, led a campaign to renovate the Moshofsky Center (indoor facility), raising over $500,000, and served as a liaison for the Order of the O, the official letter winners club for Oregon student-athletes. He also created and delivered unique donor stewardship experiences and played a key role in facilitating the 2023 Duck Athletic Fund intern program. Additionally, Johnny served as an executive committee member for Mike Bellotti's 30th Annual Toast Strength, helping to raise $401,000 to benefit the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).
Before his career in development, Johnny played professional football for the Tennessee Titans, the Salt Lake Stallions of the Alliance of American Football, and was drafted by the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL. Johnny earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in general social science from the University of Oregon in 2017, where he was a starting linebacker and team captain for Oregon Football.
During his time at Oregon, Johnny was a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selection, a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, and a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. He is also a member of the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society and a 2015 Rose Bowl Champion. Additionally, Ragin played in the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship game.
Faith and family are core values for Johnny. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Nikki, and their children, Johnny and Chandler.
