Erica Szpynda

Erica Szpynda joined Texas State in February 2018 and was elevated to Compliance Coordinator in August 2021 before taking on her current role of Assistant AD for Compliance in March 2023. She assists with all facets of compliance for the Bobcats and works with each team.

In November 2024, Szpynda was named to the NCAA Eligibility Center Division I Membership Advisory Group. She will serve a two-year tenure through 2026 and work to provide direction and feedback on Eligibility Center projects aimed at enhancing the initial-eligibility experience. 
 
Prior to Texas State, Szpynda started her career in compliance at Navy in June 2016 as a compliance intern. In the summer internship, she compiled information for NCAA, American Athletic Conference and Patriot League Reports as well as maintained the athletic department’s compliance manual and website.
 
In September 2015, Szpynda joined Temple as the Director of Fencing Operations and assisted in the daily functions of a top-10 ranked women’s fencing program for two years. She also planned and executed the Temple Open, a two-day competition for over 500 athletes. She served in this role until May 2017.
 
A former track and field athlete at Widener University (PA), Szpynda was a volunteer assistant track and field coach at Bloomsburg University from September 2014 to May 2015. In the role, she designed practices for shot putters and assisted and supervised strength training for all athletes.
 
In her collegiate career, Szpynda was a three-time national qualifier in the shot put and earned Division III All-American honors in the event in 2014. Also in 2014, she was named a CoSIDA Capital One First Team Academic All-American and Middle Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
 
Szpynda was also the president of the Widener University Student Government Association from 2013 to 2014.
 
She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Widener University (’14), with a dual major in economics and accounting, as well as a master’s degree from Temple in sports business (’17).
