Texas State men's golf head coach
Shane Howell has announced the addition of Cole Cody to the staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025-26 season. Cody comes to San Marcos after a head coaching stint at Grinnell College.
During the 2023-24 season, Cody served as head men's and women's golf coach and was responsible for recruiting, structuring and running practices, creating and implementing weight training routines, maintaining relationships with the staff at the Grinnell College Golf Course and more.
Under Cody, the men's program posted its best season scoring average since 1964-65, while playing over twice as many rounds and set the school record for lowest 54-hole score at the SLIAC Championship. The women won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship by a total of 63 shots, and nine Pioneers were named all-conference. The 2024 season also marked the program's first NCAA Division III Championship Appearance since 2021. They finished the regular season ranked No. 26 nationally by Scoreboard by Clippd and No. 25 by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. The team finished in 12th place at the NCAA Division III National Championship.
During the 2022-23 season, Cody served as a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Henderson State University where he assisted the director of golf in player development, recruiting, administering practice and tournament travel.
The men's team finished the year with seven tournament wins, three school records, a GAC team and individual championship, an NCAA Regional appearance and an individual NCAA Championship appearance. The women's team finished the year with 10 tournament victories, 10 school records, a final GolfStat ranking of sixth, a team and individual GAC Championship, an NCAA Central Region Championship victory and an NCAA Championship appearance that culminated in the semifinals of Match Play.
Cody earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics and business from Hendrix College in 2022 and was a four-year starter for the golf team. A recipient of the 2022 Coach G Warrior Award presented by the Hendrix College Athletics Department. Cody was named SAA Academic All-Conference in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 and also to the 2021 SAA All-Sportsmanship Team and 2019 SAA Academic Honor Roll. Cody was also a 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland NCAA Division III All-American Scholar and represented the men's golf team as a Student Athlete Advisory Committee member for three years.
In 2024, he earned a master's in sports administration from Henderson State.
