Daniel Selvey joins the Texas State Volleyball program as a graduate assistant after coaching high school volleyball in Florida.
Selvey was the head coach of three teams in his time in Florida: the Southwest Florida Christian Academy in Fort Myers, Fla. in 2006; Lely High School in Naples, Fla., from 2008-2012; and Cypress Lake High School also in Fort Myers in 2013.
He was named the Naples Daily News Volleyball Coach of the Year in both 2011 and 2012 and the FACA Class 5A District 18 Coach of the Year in 2012, the same year he coached his player to a District Player of the Year honor.
While at Lely, Selvey led his team to the District 5A-14 Volleyball Championship in 2011 and 2012, the first in school history. The team would go on to be a regional semifinalist in 2011 and a finalist in 2012.
Selvey’s squad finished in the top five of the FHSAA Class 5A Academic Team Standings in 2011 and 2012 and top five in the FHSAA Class 4A Academic Team Standings in 2010.
In addition to his team’s championship pedigree, Selvey also led the team to break numerous records and led his athletes to individual recognition. His coaching experience boasts a Naples Daily News All-Area Volleyball Player of the Year, seven All-Area selections, seven Naples Daily News Female Prep Athletes of the Week and eight Collier County Athletic Conference All-Conference selections.
Selvey earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary math education from Cedarville in 2005 and his master’s in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia in 2012. He is pursuing another master’s degree at Texas State, this one in middle school math education.
