Nathan Teymer

Nathan Teymer will enter his eighth season on Zenarae Antoine's staff at Texas State with the 2024-25 campaign. Teymer, who joined the Bobcats ahead of the 2017-18 season and has helped take the Bobcats to a conference title and two WNIT appearances, is responsible for coaching the forwards and post players as well as assisting with recruiting and scouting.

Teymer was responsible for working with Da'Nasia Hood, who earned three straight All-Sun Belt First Team honors while also climbing the program's career scoring list, where she sat fifth following the end of the 2022-23 regular season. Across the block, Lauryn Thompson and Jaeda Reed provided the Bobcats with reliable go-to post opportunities as the duo combined for more than 750 points and 450 rebounds over two seasons (2021-22 and 2022-23). 

In the Bobcats' 2022-23 championship season, the post players helped guide the Bobcats to a regular season title and WNIT appearance while Hood led the team in scoring and rebounding. The Bobcats also finished third in the Sun Belt in scoring defense.

During the 2020-21 season, Hood and Thompson made up two of the Bobcats' three top scorers while also being the program's top two rebounders. 

In Teymer's first season as Texas State's associate head coach in 2017-18, the Bobcats finished 23-10 overall, including a 14-4 record in Sun Belt play, which was good for the No. 2 seed in the Sun Belt Championship. The Bobcats fell in the title game, but clinched an automatic bid to the WNIT.

Prior to Texas State, Teymer served as the head coach of Augusta University in Augusta, Ga. Overall, Teymer had 12 seasons of head coaching experience before coming to Texas State.

Teymer’s tenure at Augusta University started in 2010 and lasted though the 2017 season. In the seven seasons, he compiled a 96-96 overall record, led the Jaguars to the 2016 NCAA Division II Sweet 16 and transformed the program into a top-tier team in both the Southeast Region and the Peach Belt Conference.
 
During his time at Augusta, he produced six All-Peach Belt Conference selections, two NCAA Southeast Region All-Tournament team honorees and the program’s first All-American since 1984 as Kariel Hutt earned WBCA honorable mention honors in 2016.
 
He inherited a squad at Augusta that combined for five wins the previous two seasons and guided Jaguars to a 4-0 start in his first year en route to an 8-18 overall record. A season later, in 2011-12, the Jags improved to 12-15 and enjoyed a six-game winning streak, the longest since the 2007-08 season.
 
During the 2012-13 season in his third year at the helm, Teymer transformed a program that won just one game three years prior into a No. 1 seed for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and the eighth-ranked team in the NCAA Southeast Region Poll. Teymer guided the Jaguars to a 21-6 overall record and a 14-5 mark in the Peach Belt Conference play to earn the PBC Coach of the Year honor. The 14 conference victories marked two more wins than the previous four seasons combined (12).
 
Teymer picked up his second Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year honor in the 2015-16 season as he led the team to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and earned a No. 25 national ranking. The Jags earned the eighth seed and made their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance all time. Augusta upset the top-seeded and previously undefeated No. 2 nationally-ranked Limestone 79-70 in the first round of the Southeast Regional on March 10, 2016.
 
The former head coach of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga., Teymer spent five seasons at the helm of the Lady Hornets’ program. He oversaw SPSU’s resurgence, taking the squad from a 5-22 record in his first season in 2005-06 to a school-record 30-5 mark in 2009-10 and the school’s first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance.
 
Named the 2009-10 NAIA National Coach of the Year, Teymer guided the Lady Hornets to a 90-67 overall record, including an 85-45 mark in his final four seasons. SPSU tied or set a school record for wins in a season in each of his final four seasons and was ranked No. 18 in the nation in the final poll of the 2009-10 season.
 
Teymer’s 2009-10 also was highlighted by guiding the Lady Hornets’ to the NAIA National Tournament Sweet 16 appearance along with the best start in school history (16-0). He earned Southern States Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors, as well as NAIA Region 6 Coach of the Year honors.
 
Under Teymer, the Lady Hornets’ program produced its first All-American selection in Marisa Stotler while Crystal Davis was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Teymer was inducted into the SPSU Athletics Hall of Fame in March of 2015.
 
Teymer also served two seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach from 2003-05 at Shorter College in Rome, Ga., and served stints as an assistant men’s and women’s coach at Georgia Southwestern and at Grand View College.
 
A native of Urbandale, Iowa, Teymer received a bachelor of arts in secondary education from Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa in 1999 and received his master of education in health and physical education from Georgia Southwestern in 2002.
 
Teymer is married to the former Phylicia Proctor.
