Kevin Hackerott

Kevin Hackerott is in his first season at Texas State as an assistant coach after spending the previous six seasons as an associate head coach at UTRGV.

Throughout his six seasons at UTRGV, the Vaqueros found an abundance of success. Most recently, the team finished the 2025-26 season with a 21-14 record for the program’s first ever 20-win season. That record was enough to earn them a bid to the WNIT where they made it to the second round after also reaching the second round of the Southland Conference Tournament.

Hackerott helped the program reach double-figure wins in four of the six seasons he spent in The Valley. Hackerott saw Iyana Dorsey be named to the All-WAC Second Team as she led the WAC last season with three games of 30 or more points scored and set a program record for most free throws made in a single season with 147.

Hackerott helped cultivate additional All-Conference level talent, which included Taylor Muff being named to the All-WAC Second Team and the All-Newcomer Team, Amara Graham being named to the All-WAC Second Team and Sara Bershers being an All-WAC honorable mention throughout the six seasons Hackerott was at UTRGV.

Prior to his time at UTRGV, Hackerott was the head girls basketball coach at Goddard High School. During his time at Goddard, Hackerott led his team to a 22-3 record in 2018-19 and a state championship appearance. He wrapped up his time at Goddard with two state tournament appearances, two league titles, and three Coach of the Year awards.

Prior to his time at Goddard, Hackerott was the head coach at Wellington High School from 2008-13, where he led the team some of its best years in program history, including a 21-3 record and a state tournament appearance in 2012. Additionally, Hackerott led Wellington to two league titles and was named Coach of the Year twice.

Hackerott has collegiate head coaching experience, having spent two seasons at Cameron University before taking the reins at Wellington. Prior to his time at Cameron, Hackerott spent three seasons as the head coach at Pratt Community College, where he racked up 67 wins and the program’s first NJCAA Division I Top-25 ranking by coming in as high as No. 13 in 2003-04. Hackerott started his head coaching career at Highland Community College in 2002.

Hackerott graduated from Saint Mary of the Plains College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and then earned a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Kansas City in 1995.
