Abigail Whitling

Abigail Whitling is in her 14th season as part of the Texas State women’s basketball staff as the director of basketball operations. She previously served as a graduate assistant at the University of Texas and began her career at the University of North Carolina as a student manager.

Her responsibilities at Texas State include organizing team travel arrangements, overseeing academic studies and community service, and organizing daily team operations. During the summer, one of her main responsibilities is coordinating the Coach Z Basketball Camp.

In addition to her work with the Bobcats, Whitling has also served as a speaker at the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) annual convention in both 2016 and 2017.

While at Texas, Whitling prepared game and practice footage for scouting and breakdown under Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame member and former Indiana Fever assistant coach Gail Goestenkors. Off the court, she helped organize and facilitate player relations and community service as well as help with travel planning for all away games, including two NCAA tournament berths in 2011 and 2012. In the offseason, Whitling served as assistant director for the Texas Girls Basketball Camps. She organized all registrations, coordinated with all on campus facilities for camp activities, and organized all daily camp schedules.  She was a 2012 nominee for the University of Texas Student Employee of the Year.

During her time with the Tar Heels, Whitling was a student manager from 2007-2010 under Naismith Hall of Fame coach Sylvia Hatchell. She served as the head manager during the 2009-10 season which included her working in the basketball office and being involved in the preparation of practice on a daily basis, along with traveling with the team to all away games. At UNC, Whitling was a part of three NCAA Tournament teams (2008, 2009, and 2010) and the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference championship team.

Whitling received her degree from North Carolina in 2010 with a double major in exercise and sport science and political science with a minor in African-American studies. In May 2012, she earned a master’s degree from Texas in sport management. Whitling resides in San Marcos and enjoys dog sitting and relaxing by the pool.
