Gustafson Filip is in her first season as the Associate Head Coach and is in her fourth-season overall with the Bobcats.
In her third season with the Bobcats in 2023-24, Gustafson Filip helped the women's team earn first at the SBC outdoor conference meet and helped the men's team place second. Under her direction, Chris Preddie won both the long and triple jump at the SBC outdoor meet. She coached three athletes- Easton Hammond (high jump), Chris Preddie (long and triple jump) and Aiden Hayes (high jump)- to appearances at the NCAA West Regional Meet.
During indoor season, she helped the Bobcats men's and women's teams earn six-podium finishes at the SBC conference meet and led Chris Preddie to first-place finishes in both the long and triple jump.
During the 2024 season, Gustafson Filip had athletes enter the Texas State record book 10 separate times during the indoor/outdoor seasons.
In her first season with the Bobcats in 2021-22, Gustafson Filip helped the indoor men's and women's squads finish second in the Sun Belt Conference and the outdoor groups place third in men's and fourth in women's. She tutored Katherine Stuckly, who won the conference outdoor high jump, as well as four NCAA West Prelims qualifiers: Ronnie Briscoe, Jr. (long jump), Simon Thor (javelin), Anayah Washington (long jump) and Stuckly (high jump).
In indoor, she helped Ben Collerton set the school record in the heptathlon (5,731 points) and Mathilde Canet in the pentathlon (3,855 points). Six Bobcats finished the campaign with top-10 school marks across jumps and multis.
In addition to Stuckly in the outdoor high jump, Gustafson Filip also helped Washington win a conference championship in the indoor long jump.
Prior to Texas State, Gustafson Filip served on the coaching staff at Rice from 2020 to 2021 and UCLA from 2018 to 2020. She also competed professionally in the heptathlon during that time period, and boasts a personal best score of 6,078 points. She qualified for the USA Olympic Trials in 2021 before a knee injury forced her early retirement in April.
In 2019, her first season as a post-collegian, Gustafson Filip had the sixth best heptathlon score in the United States and went on to qualify for the Thorpe Cup, where she competed for Team USA in Bernhausen, Germany.
Gustafson Filip graduated from UCLA in 2018 with a degree in Geography and Environmental Studies. While an athlete at UCLA, Gustafson Filip was a First Team All-American in the heptathlon, placing fourth at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships. She was runner-up at the Pac-12 Championships with a score of 5,886 points, which ranks second in UCLA history behind only Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
Gustafson Filip was the 2018 MPSF Conference Champion in the indoor pentathlon, setting a UCLA school record of 4,084 points. In addition to the multi events, Gustafson Filip is sixth all-time at UCLA in the javelin (46.71m) and ninth all-time in the indoor high jump (1.80m). She scored in both events at the Pac-12 Championships from 2016-18.
Gustafson Filip was captain of the UCLA track team in 2017 and 2018 and was the women’s track & field representative on the UCLA All-Academic Team (highest GPA on each varsity team) during both seasons. In 2018, she was a finalist for UCLA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Gustafson Filip attended Duke University for two years prior to transferring to UCLA, and Palisades Charter High School in Los Angeles before that. After her senior year of high school, she placed second in the heptathlon at the USA Junior Championships and went on to compete in the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Medellin, Colombia, for Team USA. She was named a high school All-American during her senior season.
