Jamiee' Bennett is in her third year with Texas State. The Lockhart, Texas native was hired in December of 2016 and will be in charge of coaching the track and field team throwers.
For the second straight season, Bennett oversaw T’Mond Johnson’s qualification for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in the shot put and earn All-American Honorable Mention honors. During the outdoor season, Johnson broke the school’s shot put record at the season opening meet. He would go on to break his own record and win his second consecutive gold medal at the Sun Belt Conference Championships with a distance of 19.79m.
The indoor campaign saw Johnson win the gold in the shot put for the second year in a row. His winning distance of 19.05m was just the second time a Bobcat surpassed 19 meters during an indoor meet.
During her first season with the Bobcats in 2017, Bennett oversaw T'Mond Johnson qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put as a sophomore and earn All-American Honorable Mention honors. Also reaching the NCAA West Preliminary meet under her tutelage was Julie Lange, who competed in the discus, hammer and shot put. Lange also set program records in the discus, hammer throw and weight throw in Bennett's first season.
“We are glad to have Jaimee’ on board,” said Stewart. “Jaimee’ is a Texas native with strong recruiting ties throughout the state and has had great success recruiting and developing her student-athletes.”
Bennett arrives to San Marcos after coaching the previous two years at UT Rio Grande Valley. During her time with the Vaqueros, her athletes recorded 15 top five finishes at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Four claimed conference titles with Javier Carretero-Oliva taking home the indoor men’s weight throw and outdoor hammer throw titles, Paul May winning the men’s discus and Cristina Santiago-Bravo attaining the women’s hammer throw title.
Overall, 10 throwers moved up into the top five all-time performers list at UTRGV in her two seasons.
Bennett served as a graduate assistant throwing coach at Incarnate Word during the 2013-15 seasons. In the 2014 campaign, she helped coach five All-Southland Conference performers including Change Dzulik to a bronze medal, the first won by a Cardinal thrower at the Division I level, at the conference outdoor championships meet. She also helped Myah Antwi become the first female thrower in UIW history to surpass 15.28m in the weight throw during the indoor season.
Her first season in San Antonio saw three Cardinal throwers earn All-Lone Star Conference honors in the school’s final season at the Division II level. That year saw Dzuik compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships in the discus, earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the discus and hammer and set a school record in the hammer toss of 55.58 meters.
Bennett completed her master’s degree from UIW in the spring of 2015. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in health, kinesiology and biology from UTSA and was a member of the track and field team from 2009-12. During her time as a Roadrunner, Bennett was an all-conference performer and team captain.
