Former three-time NCAA Track and Field All-American and three-time USA Track and Field National Championships finalist Danielle Frere joins the Texas State Track and Field staff this season. She will guide the Bobcats in the throwing events.

Frere was one of the best throwers in the United States from 2011 to 2013. She qualified and competed at the USA Outdoor National Championships in 2011. The following season she was the fifth-best shot putter and seventh-best weight thrower in the nation at the USA Indoor Championships. Outdoors, she qualified and competed in shot put at the USA Olympic Trials. Then, in 2013, she had her best result ever, placing seventh in shot put at the USA Outdoor National Championships.

The Iowa State alumna boasts career bests of 17.47 meters (57-feet-3.75-inches) in shot put, 20.24 meters (66-feet-6.5-inches) in weight throw, and 58 meters (190-feet-3-inches) in hammer throw.

As a collegiate athlete, Frere finished third at the USA Junior Nationals in shot put as a freshman, making her one of the best young throwers in the nation. Frere continued to show improvement throughout her years at Iowa State, highlighted by NCAA All-American honors in shot put three times between 2012 and 2013.

Prior to her arrival at Texas State, Frere was an assistant track and field coach at MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas. In her time there, she designed training programs for throwers and led daily practice sessions.

Previously, she held a position as volunteer coach at Boise State in Idaho, while training after college. She was involved in daily training sessions involving throwing, weightlifting and plyometric training. She also assisted in the technical development of the Broncos’ throwers.

Frere graduated from Iowa State University in 2013 with a Bachelor's of Science in kinesiology and health. The Muscatine, Iowa native also earned her USATF Level I Track and Field Coaching Certification in 2015.
