JJ Smith

JJ Smith joined the Texas State Softball coaching staff in the fall of 2024 as a graduate assistant.

Smith joined the staff after finishing her playing career at Texas State as a member of the team's 2024 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship team. Smith played two years at Texas State as the starting first basemen. She had a .255 batting average and .985 fielding percentage throughout her two seasons as a Bobcat. She recorded 80 hits, 25 for extra bases, while scoring 35 runs and tallying 64 RBI in her 121 games as a Bobcat.

Prior to joining Texas State as a junior in 2023, Smith had spent two seasons at Texas where she was an Big 12 All-Freshman Team member and a national-championship runner up in her sophomore year. During her two seasons as a Longhorn, Smith played as both a catcher and a first basemen. In the 2022 College World Series, Smith had seven hits en route to the team's 2nd place finish.

Smith is a native of Rosenberg, Texas and attended high school at George Ranch High School. She played travel ball for the Texas Bombers prior to her time at Texas and Texas State.
