Omar Lowery begins his third season as an assistant basketball coach at Texas State, where he has helped the Bobcats improve their overall record each of the last two seasons.
Last season, Lowery helped Texas State sign three of the Top 40 high school players in the State of Texas and the Bobcats increased their win total for the second straight year while contending for a Southland Conference postseason tournament berth.
As a member of the staff in 2006-07, Lowery helped recruit an impressive signing class as the Bobcats inked four of the state's top 40 prep players as well as one of the all-time leading three-point shooters from the junior college ranks. Texas State also tripled its win total from the previous year that season.
Lowery came to Texas State after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico University.
As a member of the Eastern New Mexico staff, Lowery had an extensive list of responsibilities including on-court coaching, recruiting, scouting opponents and game preparation. He also served as a clinician and coordinated officials for ENMU's summer basketball camps.
In addition to coaching, Lowery taught within the physical education department at Eastern New Mexico and earned a master's degree in sports administration from the university in 2006.
Lowery is quite familiar with this region's junior colleges. He played two seasons at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. He went on to be a First-Team All-Lakeshore Conference selection at Concordia University in Mequon, Wis.
He also helped Concordia earn a berth into the 2000 NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
Born April 19, 1978 and a native of Milwaukee, Wis., Lowery returned to his hometown after graduating from Concordia, and was a physical education teacher and assistant coach in the Milwaukee Public Schools System.
He was an assistant coach at Nathan Hale High School, where one of his players was current Texas State guard John Rybak. He also coached at Marquette High School and was an AAU coach in Milwaukee.
