Jason Burton

Jason Burton is in his second year as an assistant coach with the Texas State men’s basketball program. Burton works with the Bobcat guards, while also assisting with recruiting, scheduling, facilities, and academic monitoring.

 

Burton joined the Bobcats in the summer of 2011, after serving four years at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He was an assistant coach for three years, before being promoted to associate head coach in the fall of 2010.

 

While at A&M-Commerce, Burton was involved in the recruiting as well as the scouting, breaking down of game film and compiling scouting reports of Lions’ opponents. Burton will continue those duties at Texas State, along with coaching the Bobcat guards.

 

Burton’s efforts helped the Lions reach the Lone Star Conference Tournament all four years, as they advanced to the championship game in 2007-08 and defeated four nationally ranked teams in 2008-09. While at A&M-Commerce, Burton recruited three LSC North Division Newcomers of the Year, seven LSC North All-Conference selections, and two LSC North Freshman of the Year.

 

Burton also served as an adjunct instructor in the university’s College of Business & Technology.

Prior to A&M-Commerce, Burton coached with the Dallas Mustangs, a non-profit youth basketball program and spent the 2005-06 season as the top assistant for Chris Oestreich at Austin College.

 

Burton also helped start and was the co-founder of the Dallas Hoop Dreams along with his brother, Brian. While with the Mustangs, he was involved with the player skill development and management. At Austin College, he was responsible for many duties, including recruiting, scouting, breaking down of game film and compiling scouting reports.

 

The Plano, Texas native played collegiately at Austin College, where he was a three-year letterwinner. Burton led his team in scoring and rebounding his senior season, as he was later named team MVP and represented Austin College at the 2005 NCAA Leadership Conference.

 

Burton graduated from Austin College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and sports psychology.

 

Burton earned a master’s degree in business administration at A&M-Commerce in 2009.
