RJ Fleming is in his first season at Texas State in 2022. He was named the running backs coach in March.
Fleming has climbed the coaching ranks since his first role in 2015. He has ascended from graduate assistant to position coach, with stops at Eastern Michigan, Liberty, TCU, Trinity International and Arkansas Tech.
Prior to Texas State, Fleming was the wide receivers coach at Eastern Michigan in 2021.
Before EMU, Fleming was the offensive quality control coach at Liberty for two seasons from 2019 to 2020.
In 2020, Fleming helped the Flames conclude the season ranked in the national polls for the first time in program history. Liberty closed out the campaign No. 17 and 18, respectively, in the Associated Press and Coaches Poll. The national attention was due in part to a high-powered offense that ranked 15th in the country with 482.7 yards per game. Fleming helped oversee a wide receivers group that averaged 13.1 yards per catch and scored 25 touchdowns.
In 2019, Fleming assisted Liberty in reaching a bowl game in its first season at the FBS level. He also helped tutor Antonio Gandy-Golden, who was a 2019 Biletnikoff Award semifinalist and named a Phil Steele All-American.
Prior to Liberty, Fleming was an offensive graduate assistant with TCU. In his three years with the Horned Frogs, he was a part of a program that won 23 games and made three bowl appearances.
Fleming has appeared in eight bowl games in his playing and coaching career, with his most recent being the FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl with Liberty in 2020.
The Mississippi native is a product of the Sun Belt as he played wide receiver at Arkansas State from 2010 to 2013.
After his playing career at Arkansas State, Fleming played for the San Angelo Bandits and Arizona Rattlers in the Professional Indoor Football League in 2015.
Fleming earned his bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State in 2014 and master’s degree from TCU in 2017.
