Kyle Tatum served three seasons as the defensive tackles coach at Texas State after serving the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant.

In 2015, Tatum's defensive tackles combined for 96 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. They also had five quarterback hurries.
 
in 2014, his defensive tackles accumulated 73 tackles, 9.0 tackles for losses and 4.0 sacks. They also broke up two passes and had three quarterback hurries.
 
In his first season, they accounted for 90 tackles, including 48 solo stops, 11 tackle for losses, four sacks and five quarterback hurries. They also broke up five passes, recovered four fumbles and forced another fumble.
 
He was named the defensive tackles coach after coaching Texas State’s tight ends in 2012 as an offensive graduate assistant coach. That season, he tutored All-WAC Second-Team tight end Chase Harper, who finished the season second among Bobcat reception leaders with 28 catches for 315 catches and three touchdowns.
 
In 2011, he served as a defensive graduate assistant coach for the Bobcats.
 
Tatum came to Texas State after serving on the strength and conditioning coaching staff at UAB in 2010. He went to UAB after spending two seasons as the offensive line coach at Prattville High School in Alabama. Tatum was on the coaching staff when Prattville won a state championship in 2008.
 
He also was invited to training camp as an offensive tackle with the Calgary Stampeders in 2008 and Baltimore Ravens in 2007.
 
Tatum also played football at the University of Alabama from 2002-06, where he was a two-year starting offensive tackle after beginning his career as a freshman defensive tackle. He started two contests and recorded 14 tackles in nine games that season, including a career-high of six against Arkansas. He was named an All-SEC honoree in 2005 and to the SEC All-Academic Team in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In addition, he served as the team leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
 
He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Alabama in 2006.
