Texas State vs Cal Poly Postgame Quotes
9/19/10
Brad Wright opening statement:
“It’s a big win. It’s one of those games that seems like it’s midnight but it’s not so obviously the game went by pretty fast. I remember spurts. Our defense played well against an option team. Coach Bleil and his staff did an incredible job. This victory goes to the defense, no doubt about it.
Q: Coach you ran a lot of play action during the game, was that because you thought they were going to come after you?
A: What happened early in the game was that we were missing an assignment here and there and it just happened to be at the point of attack. Kudos to them for that. They were making plays when we weren’t making them.
Q: How much growth have you seen from the defense?
A: Playing against the option is a completely different gameplan for that front. Coach Bleil and his staff did a great job. They put in extra work on Sunday. We got the little things done that it takes to be successful.
Q: Was it important to take a day off on Sunday?
A: Sunday isn’t a day off. We come in and watch film and do weights. You just get one day ahead.
Q: How was it to have Dexter back tonight?
A: It was good. Obviously he scored too, so it was a good one. We’re going to enjoy this evening, and then we have Southern Utah coming up.
Q: How do you game plan with having three good backs?
A: The good thing is when we’re in the middle of conference plays, they’ll be fresh since they won’t be taking a beating.
Q: Can you talk about Tyler’s (Arndt) poise tonight?
A: Tyler is one of those guys that you can’t tell whether he threw an interception or a touchdown. He has the same mentality and the same expression. That’s a good quality to have in a quarterback.
Tyler Arndt
Q: How hard was that hit early in the game?
A: It was probably the worst in my career. I held on the ball a little bit too long, and I’ll pay the price for it tomorrow morning.
Q: What was your mindset after the interception?
A: You can’t panic, there’s a lot of game left. You have to trust in the offense and play your game.
Q: How are you coming together with Griggs?
A: I missed him a few times, but he had a great catch early in the game. It’s coming along better, but we have a long season so there’s better things to come.
Dexter Imade
Q: How what it like for you to get that touchdown run?
A: I was relieved to help out the defense mainly. They had been working so hard the whole game.
Kenneth Hampton:
Q: Are you ready to get the monkey of Southern Utah off your back?
A: We’re ready to get them back. Next week we’ll get back to it.
Q: How did the defense stop Cal Poly in the red zone so many times?
A: We’ve been a good red zone team since 08. We just trusted in the coaches game plan.
Q: How was it to come back?
A: Hard work pays off. As long as I’m out there with my team I’m feeling good.
Q: Are you excited about the defense coming together?
A: Yeah. We’re coming together in bits and pieces, but it’s coming. The tackling part is way better than we used to.
